After a long break due to the amount of restoration work that we have been doing I can now find time to catch up with the web site now that the long winter evenings limit the time we can spend in the workshop. Apart from client's restorations and repairs we have also been working on our own stock items. One being the re caning of a very nice Deco period bedroom chair. This is not our favourite Restoration work as it is very time consuming and expensive to undertake, it took around 25 hours to re cane this chair, and the caning set costs around £20. So this is more a labour of love as we can never hope to recover the costs when selling something like this on. The wood was rubbed down and varnished for longevity .
Another project that we undertook throughout the late Summer, and one that we touched on in a previous post, was the total re upholstering of a deep buttoned nursing chair. This involved completely stripping the chair back to it's bare frame, which then needed repairing before the filling could be replaced. This proved a bit of a challenge as this was one of the bigger jobs that we have undertaken, requiring the learning of new techniques to sew in the springs within the seat.
